Can we speak confidentially? We're pretty frickin' pleased with how many improv and sketch groups have sprung from ColdTowne -- like gods from the brow of Zeus -- in the short time we've been around. You can't swing a dead cat around here without hitting some obscenely talented improviser, comedian, musician, or writer. We know, because we've tried.

So: Proctor. A weekly showcase of the best and brightest of the ColdTowne crew, headlined by The Faculty, the award-winning poobahs who teach at ColdTowne Conservatory. In addition, each week we'll trot out a couple of thoroughbreds from the ColdTowne stables: sometimes improv, sometimes sketch, sometimes something else entirely, butalways funny. Or we shoot them afterwards.

With a different lineup every Friday, the only constant will be superhilarious awesomeness. Well, that and a performance by The Faculty. And, um, a very small stage.

Your genial hosts ColdTowne, whose group mind "borders on the dysfunctional" and who can switch gears from quiet conversation to complete chaos -- and back again -- without even rumpling their jumpsuits perform every Saturday at 10p. They have won more awards than can be listed here, even though they like to pretend like they're all avant and insurgent. What. Ever.

They are joined every first Saturday at ColdTowne! First, The Frank Mills, individually and collectively winners of pretty much every improv award in Austin, will lay down their signature awesomeness: beautifully played scenes that are hilariously, heartbreakingly real. But mostly real funny.

On second Saturdays, they are joined by Murphy, one of ColdTowne Theater's supersweet house teams. Come and dig what the new breed say!

On third Saturday, they are joined by Look Cookie, the first group to emerge from the ColdTowne Conservatory (now registering for the new session) and they have big fun things written all over them. This will absolutely-for-sure be the brightest spot of your weekend unless you've got something really amazing planned, like falling in love or having a "baby."

And on the fourth Saturday, The Midnight Society: The second team to emerge from the ColdTowne Conservatory has come off the line hitting on all cylinders and shows no sign of slowing any time soon. They're smart and sly and snappy, and you should see them now before their improv superpowers become literally blinding.

Cage Match!

Now weekly! ColdTowne's CageMatch throws two teams of comic gladiators into the pit — some established ensembles, some ad-hoc groups created specifically for the CageMatch — and gives each of them 22 minutes to claw their way into your heart. Desperation never smelled so sweet.

Remember, this is the improv show where your vote counts. For only five bucks, you can come make life-or-death rulings on the future of these doughty warriors! You'll be drunk with power, and you know you like that.

The current tournament, Calzone War Zone, starts TONIGHT and runs through the end of the year. The winners will be lauded and their victories celebrated through the ages. The losers will be shamed, discarded and forgotten.

Parallelogramophonograph

Parallelogramophonograph has been performing together for over two years. They have performed around the country, at numerous venues around Austin, and were named Best Improv Troupe by the Austin Improv Collective. Through their ongoing Thursday show at ColdTowne Theater, PGraph has continued to create new show formats and push the boundaries of their improvisational skills. Parallelogramophonograph is always playful and funny, yet never afraid to let dramatic moments add the bitter to their sweet improvised stories.
