A Guide To Longhorn Tailgating

When it comes to sports, the Texas Longhorns are king in Austin.

And there is nothing bigger than Texas Football. The Texas Football program is one of the most storied in history, ranking in the top five in all-time wins in the history of college football. We're looking forward to a full season's worth of stellar games and good hangs.

With any good football game at Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium comes an even better tailgate party. For every home game, fans, student organizations, and local businesses show up early to plant their flag for a long day of drinks, food, and football.

We compiled a list of tailgates you should stop by the next time you're heading out for a Longhorns football game, as well as the essential items and things to remember to have the best tailgate possible. Find those details below. Hook 'Em Horns!

What to bring to a tailgate:

Boots - We're in Texas, so you may as well act like it. Showing up in your trusty pair of Vans might just be a little weird.

Burnt Orange - see above explanation.

Koozie - Free beer is pretty much being handed out at every tailgate so Koozies are a good thing to have handy.

Lawn Chairs - Tailgates go on for a couple of hours before the game, and there are no seats on that cement parking lot.

Sunglasses/hat/sunscreen/any sun protection in general - There isn't likely to be too much shade around, so make sure you're protecting your eyes and skin.

Mini portable fan - This one is clutch for those days when it's scorching out. Be the envy of everyone who came fan-less.

An appetite - Most tailgates have food and lots of it. Come hungry or go home.

A cooler - If you're planning on bringing refreshments to the tailgate, a cooler is going to be an absolute necessity for keeping them nice and cold. Make sure to check beforehand to see if you're allowed to bring a cooler to your chosen tailgate, though.
