Eef Barzelay, most notable for his work with the band Clem Snide, is starting a brief tour here. His new album, “Lose Big,” was released this week, so he’s likely to play some hip, new tunes. When you hear Merle Haggard, you might think of a sharp guitar riff and great old country voice. What some might not know is his music almost didn’t happen. After serving time in juvenile detention facilities, it wasn’t until he saw Johnny Cash in concert that he decided to straighten out his life. Most recently, he wrote a song for Hillary Clinton titled “Hillary.” He’s better known, however, for his 42 No. 1 country hits. Tonight he plays the Paramount. more at austin360.com
