breaking hip-hop producer RZA declares war on analog suckas with Digi Snacks (Koch), his third LP as superhero alter ego Bobby Digital. The kung-fu obsessed Wu-Tang beatsmith is fond of sampling dusty Southern soul records but is backed live by California soul groovers Stone Mecca. As Bobby Digital, RZA spits bizarro non sequitur rhymes in his trademark staccato flow: “I talk with the awkward slang, I walk with the Wu-Tang.” – Thomas Fawcett more at austinchronicle.com

When Raekwon laid into RZA for acting like a “hip-hop hippie” during the making of the latest Wu-Tang Clan album, some people couldn’t help but get excited. Certainly Raekwon was talking trash, but does the idea of RZA growing more mystical and weird strike anyone else as unappealing? In the end, Raekwon was right and wrong: Wu’s 8 Diagrams is a little strange and comparatively wispy in terms of production, but the beats manage to linger and haunt intriguingly in the end. Here, RZA will play a “live set” by himself. What will that mean? There’s really no telling. Opening: Stone Mecca.

With the help of fellow Texan Ethan Hawke, Dallas native Lisa Loeb’s 1990s ballad “Stay (I Missed You),” heard in the coming-of-age film “Reality Bites” (which starred Hawke), became an immediate national hit. Following the film’s release, Loeb released her 1995 debut album “Tails,” which also featured singles “Waiting for Wednesday” and “Do You Sleep?” Though none of her subsequent songs reached the iconic status of “Stay,” Loeb kept busy in the past decade with voice-over work for “Spider-Man” and “Shorty McShorts’ Shorts” as well as appearing as herself on the popular series “Gossip Girl.” Loeb recently re-released “Purple Tape,” a two-disc compilation featuring songs from her self-released cassette of the same name in 1992.
