On her new tribute, Just a Little Lovin’ (Lost Highway), Shelby Lynne doesn’t mimic Dusty Springfield as much as revel in each song’s Southern soul roots. At SXSW 08, the L.A.-based singer/guitarist ignored an audience there to schmooze, laying down an exquisite late-night vibe. Let’s hope the ever-charismatic singer with marvelous pipes includes a couple from her admirable past this go-round, as well. Chicago strummer David McMillin opens. – Jim Caligiuri more at austinchronicle.com

At 9:15 p.m., Tish Hinojosa jams with Marvin Dykhuis and Michael Hearne. Jon Dee Graham frequents the Continental Club and tonight is no exception. He takes the stage at 10:30 p.m. Graham’s songwriting won him the Austin Musician of the Year title in 2006 at the Austin Music Awards show. Later on, James McMurtry hosts the second part of his CD release party for his new album “Just Us Kids.”

While Austin rocked with Roman bacchanalia during the third weekend of March, Colombian superstar Juanes led a bill of performers in quelling an international incident. At the border of Colombia, Venezuela, and Ecuador, Juanes and others calmed tensions brought on by his native government’s anti-guerilla raid into Ecuador. The stainless anthemic pop of his recent La Vida … Es un Ratico should dispel any lingering fallout peacefully. – Raoul Hernandez more at austinchronicle.com

Lynne took inspiration from Dusty Springfield for her recent album. McMillin, originally from Chicago, has a folksy rock feel to his music.
