Pitting local trio Yellow Fever’s psych strum against the firebranded metal of Red River-born the Sword yields a good fight, the former gliding on an infectious EP and 7-inch and the latter emerging from hibernation on November’s split 12-inch with Sweden’s Witchcraft. Junior Brown supposedly envisioned his trademark guit-steel in a dream, a plausible origin given that the double-necked hybrid is an ungodly beast combining all that’s razor-sharp and right in the instrumental world. Even more impressive is his wielding of the axe, with blistering honky-tonk fretwork that’s matched his deep country baritone for more than two decades.
