If you haven’t yet discovered the prowess of Geologic (rhymes), and Sabzi (beats), let me be the first to tell you that you are missing out. The bond between the two is inseparable. They create a unity that is often rightly compared to that of Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth, or DJ Premier & The Guru. I saw BKB open up for another favorite group- Michael Franti & Spearhead this Fall. They got the place jumping straight off with spirited, intelligent, rebel reggae-rock. The biggest reason I like this band is for the singer, he is a brilliant writer of both melodies and lyrics. He stands out because he does things I don’t expect, and writes words that sometimes go places I didn’t think they would. Meaning he’s less predictable than a good deal of songwriters, he’s quite diverse. One moment poetic, the next, pure straight-forward blunt rock.

Ben Kweller is the newest musical phenominon in the industry. Formely a member of minorly successful rock group Radish, Kweller after spending some time traveling the country, essembles a near perfect collection for his debut solo release. The name of Beach House might imply a certain kind of pop — sunny, frothy, sort of a Beach Boys vibe.
If so, that name is very deceptive, because their music is none of the above. Hailing from Baltimore, Beach House’s second album “Devotion” is more like sleeping in a haunted, jewelled music box — all ghostly singing, lushly sparkling pop instrumentation and sensually dreamy melodies. more at www.amazon.com

The youthful rockers in Paramore launched their emo-punk at local Tennessee hangouts and talent shows, as youngsters often do, but made the jump to bigger venues much more quickly than most. That, in turn, prompted a speedy maturity in their sound, adding a level of sophistication to otherwise Avril Lavigne-esque frustration-rock. They’re angry young folk yelling about their anxieties to others like them, but if the trend holds, they’ll elevate to something more complex soon enough. Opening: The Starting Line, The Almost.
