If your impression of one-man bands is limited to Dick Van Dyke banging cymbals with his knees in Mary Poppins, Monday is a good time to acquaint yourself with some folks who don’t need a full band to rock. Making his own damn rehearsal schedule and travel arrangements is Oklahoma’s El Paso Hot Button, a lone tornado from the Dust Bowl who kicks up a furious concoction of blues, punk, and metal like he’s The White Stripes. Also trimming dead weight is Austin’s Daniel Francis ZDoyle, a drummer who wrings throbbing spazz-metal out of frantic skinbeating and a looped, perpetually feedbackging guitar. The Unwound-esque unraveling of Ume and the GSL-like skronk of Arkansas’ Church of the Snack requires more than two hands, so don’t be surprised if they’re casting jealous glances at the other acts’ full supply of drink tickets.
