When The Vain disbanded, Austin not only lost the best collection of Nikki Sixx haircuts in town, it also lost one of its finest purveyors of sleazy, Faces-meets-Stones rock ’n’ roll. Fortunately, lead singer Jesse Vain rebounded with A Few Nice Things, picking up where his former eponymous group left off and busting out another batch of raunchy stompers reeking of cigarettes, whiskey, and never-washed leather pants. Opener Alright Tonight is the side project of Those Peabodys’ similarly retro-minded Clarke Wilson, who ditches the skunkweed ’70s rawk of his primary outfit for a trip back to the power pop of the ’60s. Both groups pretend like the last two decades of music never happened, which means it’s up to DJ Prince Klassen to find the wormhole to bring you home. www.theonion.com
