As the house producer at Stiff Records, Nick Lowe helped shape the early output of Elvis Costello, The Damned, and The Pretenders in addition to throwing his own wickedly cool pop daggers. After the ’80s, Lowe traded new wave for roots-rock and—with the new At My Age—full-fledged country, but he still earns bragging rights as a “Godfather Of Punk” for reviving the three-minute rock single, as well as penning barbed classics like “(What’s So Funny ’Bout) Peace, Love, And Understanding?” Given Lowe’s extensive catalog, the musicians set to pay homage here—including tribute band The Lowelies, Elvis Costello cover act The Costellophones, Ron Flynt and Eric Hisaw, and “hoot night king” Paul Minor—should have plenty to choose from. As a bonus, Yep Roc will be giving away copies of At My Age, and the Alamo Drafthouse will screen a collection of rare Lowe videos. www.theonion.com

Uh-oh. World music from Columbia grads? Wait, wait, come back – Vampire Weekend’s sound works on many levels. The quartet of word nerds (“Oxford Comma,†“Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassaâ€) winds through afro-beat and dubby punk, infusing it with melody and punch without coming off like khaki-clad clones. Their most recent EP only adds to the list of this year’s uncategorizable-yet-infectious albums. Til We’re Blue or Destroy headline, and Aster opens. – Audra Schroeder

Firing his London bandmates for April’s sophomore disc Nux Vomica (Rough Trade), Finn Andrews amps up the emotional angst tenfold from 2004 debut The Runaway Found. Raw-edged vocals verging on early Bright Eyes hysterics and/or Rufus Wainwright theatrics (“Jesus for the Jugularâ€) dial up Andrews as a piano-driven drama queen whose emotional crescendo finally lands a non-South by Southwest showcase at Stubb’s downstairs sanitarium. BYOT: Bring your own turmoil. – Raoul Hernandez
