“So, everything’s pretty much back to normal down there, right?” The ignorance behind such a question is stunning, and less likely to be heard in Austin, which established itself as a sister city to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. more at austinist.com

Frequently regarded as one of the funniest movies of all time, 1975’s Monty Python And The Holy Grail uses a send-up of the King Arthur legend to lampoon government, aristocracy, religion, and much more. The manic troupe created a coherent (and highly quotable) comedy out of sketches that turned dismemberment (“It’s just a flesh wound”) and the bubonic plague (“I’m not dead yet”) into fertile material. And it’s relevant to the times—just take in a prayer levied for a Holy Hand Grenade: “Oh Lord, bless this hand grenade, that with it thou mayest blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy.” It also spawned legions of dorks who can—and will—recite the film from memory at the slightest provocation, most of whom will be on hand here at the Alamo’s Quote-Along, loudly reveling in shrubberies and elderberries without fear of being repressed. www.theonion.com
