Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau and Tito's Vodka present the "Official Drink of Austin" contest

Tito's Vodka, together with the Austin Convention and Visitor's Bureau are giving five local venues the chance to have one of their most Austin-tatious beverages crowned the "Official Drink of Austin". To enter, just create an original recipe – something not already on your menu – using Tito's Vodka, for a drink that you think captures the "flavors of Austin." From martinis to shots and everything in between, it's up to you. After the contest, the public is welcome to come on down for some great Tito's drinks and music by The Greyhounds at 7. $2 Tito's and samples of the brand new Official Drink of Austin will also be available for your drinking pleasure. Do512 is giving away 5 pairs of guestlist passes to this private event.

Now's your chance to prove your skills as a master mixologist. Submit your original recipe to enter the 2008 "Official Drink of Austin" contest, hosted by Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau, Tito's Handmade Vodka and 107.1 KGSR.

 

 

To enter, just create an original recipe – something not already on your menu – using Tito's Vodka, for a drink that you think captures the "flavors of Austin."  From martinis to shots and everything in between, it's up to you.  Use your creativity.  Theme it after live music, design it to go with a quintessentially Austin dish, use Texas ingredients, celebrate "Keep Austin Weird", anything you think puts Austin in a glass.  Name it something clever, and submit your recipe to Danielle Owen, dowen@austintexas.org, by 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 31.  Recipes submitted after the deadline will not be reviewed by the judges, and no changes can be made to recipes once they're submitted.

 

Judges (five local hospitality VIPs and leading media) will review all submissions on the basis of creativity and menu appeal, and choose five finalists.  For this first round, judges will not know which venues submitted recipes, so rest assured that favoritism is not an option.  Finalists will be announced on Tuesday, August 12.

 

NOW HEAR THIS!  By submitting a recipe, you agree that your venue has staff available to participate in the actual contest, which takes place at Threadgill's (south location) on August 27 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.  At the contest, finalists will present their recipes to the judges, winners of KGSR, Austin American-Statesman and Do512 ticket giveaways, and members of the local media.  Contestants are judged partially on presentation, so if you're a finalist, plan to sing, dance, toss liquor bottles, wear costumes, and have a great time. 

 

Once the contest is over, Austin CVB and Tito's are hosting the "after party" at Threadgill's.  There will be live music, and the public is invited to attend.  The Austin American-Statesman, KGSR and Do512.com are promoting the "after party," so the newly-crowned drink will have a great local audience.

 

The Rules:

Recipe must include Tito's Handmade Vodka.
Recipe must create a new, original drink – something not already available on your menu.
Potentially offensive submissions will be disqualified.
