VERTIGO
(1958) (128 min.) (70mm) (Color) (DTS Digital Stereo)
James Stewart, Kim Novak, Barbara Bel Geddes. Directed by Alfred Hitchcock.
Recently named by the American Film Institute as one of the Top Ten Films of All-Time, this Hitchcock classic is a mesmerizing story of love, loss and obsession, with Stewart as the definitive, flawed Hitchcock hero and Novak as the embodiment of the Hitchcock blonde object of desire. Originally filmed in VistaVision, in which a 35mm negative ran sideways through a camera, capturing the image on a larger frame than through conventional 35mm cinematography. For the film's restoration, James Katz and Robert Harris (who also restored "Lawrence of Arabia") opted to print the larger image on 70mm film to fully present the original richness of visual detail. The results are stunning, and the movie itself is unforgettable. The Bernard Hermann score, re-mastered in digital stereo, is as haunting as the story itself. 50th Anniversary!
