A satire rather than a spoof, this Western gem is no less delightful. Stewart is the reluctant sheriff determined to tame a rowdy town without resorting to violence. The divine Dietrich resurrected her floundering career with her raucous turn as the dance hall hostess Frenchy, who sings "See What the Boys in the Back Room Will Have," and is clearly the inspiration for Madeline Kahn's Lili Von Shtupp in "Blazing Saddles." Wonderful fun.
