Excellently told, superbly photographed story of civilizations clashing on China's Yangtze River in 1926. McQueen, in one of his best performances, plays a cynical sailor on a U.S. gunboat. Makes some pointed observations about U.S. imperialism, and the subtle parallels with Vietnam are purely intentional.
