As a young Norwegian girl, Kate Havnevik began her musical exploration wanting to be a classical- and jazz guitar player. Then at the age of 14 she changed her mind, took a U-turn and joined an all female punk band, rehearsing and playing at Oslos (illegally occupied) punk HQ, Blitz. Having both parents as professional classical musicians she herself is a skilled musician in her own right and plays both the guitar and the piano to a high level. Although she prefers to concentrate on her vocal performance when do live gigs, she occasionally grabs an instrument to enhance the experience. Kates unique voice, which explores both the very depths and the highs of her vocal range, is as much her trademark as her own music, which is melodic & cool, sometimes dramatic but always intelligently executed. She spices her unusual & exciting arrangements with a touch of electronic programming mixed with conventionally recorded traditional instruments to create the sound-scape that she likes to dress her songs and voice in. Recently she has been enjoying a considerable notice for her work on both sides of the Atlantic, not least because of her recent collaboration with Röyksopp, Carmen Rizzo and Noel Hogan of the Cranberries, but also have her songs now been widely noticed amongst music supervisors in the States in recent months. That is partly thanks to LAs premier radio station KCRWs enthusiasm and constant airplay for her work, courtesy of USAs leading taste-maker Nic Harcourt. Amongst the producers Kate has co-written and collaborated with in the past are Yoad Nevo, Tom Middleton, Valgeir Sigurdsson, Paul Statham, Carmen Rizzo and Marius De Vries Kates closest musical collaborator in the past years has though been writer/producer Guy Sigsworth and quite a few of her songs are a result of this excellent collaboration. Kates large repertoire of songs that sometime differ in styles and direction meant she decided that Melankton needed to be the first album come out. She formed her own record label to have as an outlet for her music, and she already has plans (and more than enough songs) for the next two albums on her schedule.
