People ask me what type of music I play all the time, but the answer is "lots of different stuff". I have never been one to jump on bandwagons, especially when it comes to music. What you won't hear is flavor of the month songs or anything cheeky. What you will hear is a mix of older music that may sound familiar at times and foreign other times. I may also play some Nordic or French disco. It's not quite electronic, but there are many electronic elements. Basically anything with rhythm. Here are some of my personal favorites that have influenced me (some are djs, some are bands, some are producers). Brian Eno, Can, Stereolab, Pink Floyd, Talking Heads, Fela Kuti, The Smiths, Depeche Mode, New Order, Sonic Youth, Yo La Tengo, Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, The Clash, Stevie Wonder, Grandmaster Flash, Run DMC, Stetsasonic, DJ Shadow, Coldcut, Negativland, Ministry, REM, U2, Pavement, LCD Soundsystem, Metro Area, Todd Terje, August Darnell, Marvin Gaye, Serge Gainsbourg, Scott Walker, David Bowie, T.Rex, Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan, Velvet Underground, Busy B, Prince Paul, NWA, Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, Derrick May, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Harry Nilsson, Roni Size, all the djs who paved the way (Frankie Knuckles, Ron Trent, Larry Levan, Norman Jay, Gilles Peterson, Benji B) and of course, James Brown, Kool Herc, DJ Food, Dust Brothers and Nigel Godrich.
