With the city's beloved Enchanted Forest in limbo during this year's Halloween season (come on, City Hall... work it out!), some of the forest's favorite artists, musicians, and performers keep the flame burning for this year's festivities.

So who's hosting this Halloween extravaganza? None other than Gadjo Disko! Made from 100% recycled culture: immigrant punk, Klezmer khaos, slavic hip-hop, favela funk, Balkan beats, Romani Rap, Kurduro... ETHNOTECHNO DISKOTEKA!

The Ararat crew will be serving up delectable delights and Shisha Lounge in the Opium Den with DJ Brânza. The will also be an altar at Disko de los Muertos to honor loved ones who have passed on. Please bring flowers, candy, messages, or photograph xeroxes to add. (Please don't bring anything to the altar that you need returned. Save any sacred relics from your altar at home.)

The Disko del los Muertos Halloween extravaganza will be held at the Rhizome Collective, located at 300 Allen St. (between Pleasant Valley and Springdale just south of East 5th).
Hump! Presents... Zombie Funk II

So you all know about the Hump! parties every Friday night at Plush, right? If you don’t: shame, shame. Deejays Resinthol and Paco put together the most amazing mixes of classic funk, disco, and boogie sets with special guest musicians accompanying the groove with live instrumentation. Mc Tigre Liu usually stops in to offer a melodic flow of spoken word lyrics that completes the setting for the night.

As luck would have it, Halloween falls on a Friday this year. And when I speak of luck, it is for you that this good fortune will be bestowed. This Halloween, Zombie Funk 2 is in the mix as Resinthol, Paco, and MC Tigre Liu are joined by special guest deejay SupaFly on the tables and Claude 9 on keys.

Zombie Funk 2 kicks off at 10:00pm, Friday October 31st. Cover is usually free for the zombie freaks that dance in before 11:00pm.

Plush is located in Austin’s Red River district on the corner of 7th St. and Red River.

Also stay tuned for information about the November 7th Hump! event featuring the legendary Boo Williams.

Halloween in a Handbasket with Flametrick Subs, Turbo 350, and Spoiled Royals (lounge)

Let fire and brimstone rain down as a storm of lyrical mischief and psychobilly bass lines for Halloween in a Handbasket night at Emo’s Lounge with hell-fire rockers The Flametrick Subs.

Double cuff the sleeves, spit shine the boots, and get your breath in check, for a rage is brewing. For the ladies out there: no sense worrying about the hem lines. Grab the fish nets you’ve been hiding in the back of the sock drawer and some pom-pom platforms for the party.

The Flametrick Subs will join Texas boogie blues outfit Spoiled Royals and rockabilly speedsters Turbo 360.
Hump! Presents... Chicago House Pioneer Boo Williams

Keeping the funk, disco, and boogie groove jumping to the heartbeat of Austin’s downtown music district, resident Hump! deejays Resinthol and Paco pull out all the stops for a special Hump! party featuring the legendary Chicago house music pioneer, Boo Williams, on Friday, November 7th at Plush.

A little history lesson: House music started in Chicago after Frankie Knuckles brought the disco & post-disco RnB sound of New York to the city’s music scene. Cats like Frankie Knuckles and Ron Hardy cultivated the house sound, adding harder beats and remixing songs to be more worthy of the dance floor. Among this era of music innovation, Boo Williams emerged from Chicago’s south side as a house music pioneer and early contributor to the Chicago house movement.

From Williams’ bio:

To date Boo Williams has had a prolific career with over 50 singles released for likes of Dust Traxx, Cajual, Ovum, Diaspora, Guidance, 3hree to 5ive, Residual with full L.Ps for Relief and Defender Records not including remixes for the likes of Green Velvet, Warmdue Kids, Miles Maeda. His appearances on compilations across the world are numerous (Ministry of Sound, Kickin Records, Cajual, Sony) and he has a back catalogue of material that will only strengthen in years to come and hopefully stand the test of time.

Resident DJs Paco and Resinthol will be hosting the event, along with Reverend Pain on Sax. Plush is located at 617 Red River St. in downtown Austin. Cover is only $5. Doors open at 10:00pm.

Kraak & Smaak - Plastic People Tour w/ OHN & L.A.X.

The Fall of 2008 has been an absolute treat for electronica freaks in the otherwise electronica-deprived Austin nightlife. With shows like Glitch Mob, Dan le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip, Bassnectar, and MSTRKRFT behind us, I was sure that the string of massive talent visiting our little music capital of the world was just a small fluke in the alignment of the booking universe.

But wait a minute? Do my eyes deceive me? Is this real, or have I just been listening to too much Kraak and Smaak?

That's right, my friends (or "darn tootin" for the red amoung us), Kraak & Smaak is bringing their Plastic People Tour to the ATX on Tuesday, November 11th. No lame DJ-set here. The fellas are bringing the entire crew for a full-blown live performance.

Kraak & Smaak has been cranking out tasty morsels of electronic goodness since 2003, gaining widespread acclaim in 2007 after remixes for artists like Jamiroquai, Richard Dorfmeister (yes, K&D baby!), Junkie XL, Soul of Man, Fort Knox Five, and Max Sedgley flew off record store shelves. The Holland-based group has rocked the festival circuit, including stops at Coachella, SXSW, and the Miami Winter Music Conference, and are prominent figures of Holland's electronic music scene.

Want a preview? Click here to subscribe to the K&S podcast (free!). Kraak & Smaak will perform at the Parish in Austin, TX on Tuesday November 11, 2008.

Our favorite electronic groove junkies, OHN, will be opening up - so be there at 8:00pm! Local outfit L.A.X. will also be opening. Tickets are available at Frontgatetickets.com
